EVTA, Endovenous Thermal Ablation, eliminates varicose veins at the source.  The twisted bulging that causes discomfort and embarrassment results from faulty valves in the veins.  As blood flows through your veins to the heart, stop valves are supposed to prevent the blood from flowing backwards as gravity pulls it down.  If the valves don't close properly, blood pools in the vein, forcing the walls to enlarge and bulge out.

EVTA uses targeted laser energy to seal the vein shut and help you look and feel better fast.  It is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure that leaves no scar and can be performed in our office.
AP, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, can be part of a complete program to eliminate unsightly or painful leg veins.  AP was originally developed in Europe and is now commonly performed in many areas of the United States.  This technique permits removal of the largest surface varicose veins as an office procedure perfromed under local anesthesia.  This technique differs dramatically from vein stripping and should not be confused with that procedure.  It is far less invasive since only the large surface varicose veins are removed.  Skin incisions or needle punctures as small as 1mm are used to extract veins with a Phlebectomy hook.  A hook is inserted into a micro-incision in the leg.  A section of the vein is hooked and then removed through the incision.  With this procedure, a compression bandage is worn for two weeks.  This minimizes swelling and discomfort and allows for proper healing.
Varicose Veins and Spider Veins are chronic and recurrent conditions.  The variety of treatments available will not offer a cure, but rather a control of the condition.  Surgically removed veins cannot come back, veins which are successfully closed with chemicals will not return.  However, your tendency, inborn in the majority of cases, of developing new veins will not necessarily be relieved by this or any other form of treatment.

Spider Vein Treatments

Treatment of smaller veins and cosmetic spider veins is usually best accomplished with sclerotherapy.

The first thing you should know is that results are not instantaneous.  It takes time for the veins to disappear.  In fact, it is common and very probable that your legs will look worse before getting better.  Mild bruising is a normal occurence.  The treated veins will, in all likelihood, still be present when the bruising goes away.  In fact, it often takes 4 to 6 weeks for the veins to fade completely.  Remember, the area will look worse before it looks better and this is perfectly normal.

Sclerotherapy is a popular method of eliminating varicose and superficial telangectasias (spider veins) in which a solution, called a sclerosing agent, is injected into the veins.  The majority of persons who have sclerotherapy performed will be cleared or at least see a good improvement (85% improvement is generally felt to be the "industry standard").  Sclerotherapy never achieves one hundred percent perfection but can come close. Treatment consists of a series of injections.  The solutions are natural substances developed for this treatment.
