Photo Rejuvenation
We offer: Thermascan, Profractional, Contour TRL and IPL lasers.
ThermaScan Laser
This is ideal for non-invasive wrinkle and acne scar treatment through collagen remodeling or for treating acne by heating sebaceous glands thereby minimizing oil production. The pulse duration and high scattering coefficient limit the heated region to a uniform thin layer below the epidermal-dermal boundary.
The LAPG (Large Area Pattern Generator) computer-guided high speed scanner provides precise placement of each spot in a non-sequential pattern to prevent excessive heat build-up promoting thermal relaxation time between pulses. In addition, the advanced robotic scanning offers smooth operation, faster treatments, and 100% coverage.
To achieve optimal safety and patient comfort, the LAPG provides integrated contact cooling through sapphire plates and a powerful external chilling unit. The intelligent user interface provides user-friendly and quick guidance to initial settings for the treating conditions. ThermaScan is designed for all skin types including tanned skin.
Clinical Applications
The infrared laser treatment requires heating the target region to an elevated temperature within a narrow temperature band.
Rejuvenation of dermal collagen includes:
Wrinkles
Acne
Acne scars
Skin tone and texture
ThermaScan utilizes the LAPG high speed scanner with continuous contact cooling for precise, uniform coverage
The computer guided scanner covers large areas rapidly and evenly
Maximizes the time interval between adjacent spots
Minimizes subsurface heat buildup
High speed, uniform coverage
Improves efficacy
Powerful Cooling
ThermaScan's powerful sapphire plate contact cooling, for pre-, during, and post-treatment, provides increased patient safety and comfort.
Beam Profile
The precise targeted flat-top beam profile causes less energy scattering and enables deep penetration to targeted chromophores. Uniform energy distribution results in even treatment to prevent central heat buildup.
ProFractional Laser
Overview
ProFractional is Sciton’s solution for achieving excellent resurfacing results with minimal downtime. Unlike full field resurfacing which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site, ProFractional ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This action initiates the body’s wound healing response which stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and tunable results that can range from subtle to dramatic.
Clinical Applications
ProFractional creates clean, micro-ablated channels in the skin, which activate fibroblast production and rejuvenate the collagen matrix. The result is the formation of new collagen and elastin, which combine to bring increased turgor and thickness to the skin. Leaving surrounding tissue intact helps promote rapid healing due to presence of stem cells and melanocytes in the papillary dermis.
ProFractional therapy can be used on all skin types, both on face and body.
Science + Technology
Better ablation through more efficient water absorption
ProFractional utilizes an erbium:YAG laser, which was chosen due to its high ablation efficiency. Erbium has a much higher absorption in the target chromophore water than CO2 (see graph below) which gives erbium the ability to vaporize tissue with very little thermal conduction. By contrast, due to their comparatively low absorption by water, CO2 lasers have lower ablation efficiency and therefore, unavoidably, conduct a significant amount of heat into the tissue.
Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL) technology
Erbium’s high water absorption is only part of the story. What truly sets ProFractional apart is TRL technology, which gives the user the ability to adjust the depth of ablation and coagulation independently. By modulating the laser’s energy to deliver supra-ablative pulses, ProFractional is able to vaporize any depth of tissue from 25 to 1500 µm per pass with extreme precision. If coagulation is desired,
ProFractional-XC delivers a train of sub-ablative laser pulses that heat the tissue to a selectable depth without vaporizing it.
Combination treatments
ProFractional works very well as a stand-alone procedure or in combination with other treatments. Some examples of combination therapies include:
MicroLaserPeel™ + ProFractional Therapy - Start with Sciton’s MicroLaserPeel for full field treatment to remove superficial irregularities followed by ProFractional Therapy to stimulate collagen remodeling through deep fractional ablation.
BBL™ + ProFractional Therapy - Start with Sciton’s BBL for full field treatment to remove pigmented lesions followed by ProFractional Therapy.
SkinTyte™ + ProFractional Therapy - Start with SkinTyte to improve skin laxity followed by ProFractional Therapy.
Contour TRL™ Laser
Product Overview
The Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is a full-field skin resurfacing solution, capable of a wide variety of treatment options. From a shallow MicroLaserPeel® (up to 50µm of ablation) to deep resurfacing (up to 200µm of ablation per pass, with or without variable depth coagulation), the Contour TRL gives the physician exquisite control over surgical outcomes.
What makes the Sciton resurfacing laser truly unique among other resurfacing lasers is TRL technology, which provides independent control over the depth of ablation and coagulation with micron precision. TRL technology makes it easy to ablate as shallow or deep as you like, with or without coagulation. Competitive lasers, like CO2, have a fixed ratio of coagulation to ablation, and there is no way to separate the two. With CO2, coagulation always accompanies ablation, which often leads to suboptimal treatments and undesired side effects like hypopigmentation, sustained erythema, and prolonged recovery times.
Sciton’s TRL technology is different. Because the Contour TRL decouples ablation and coagulation and allows for precise application of each, practitioners can dial in the exact tissue effect needed for each patient’s pathology, desired outcome, and tolerance for downtime.
Clinical Applications
The Contour TRL’s unique ability to be tuned for different tissue effects gives it the widest array of possible treatments. TRL technology provides the ability to plane down wrinkles externally while internally stimulating the dermal collagen matrix to firm the skin and add dermal resilience. Primary treatments include:
Mild to deep wrinkles
Persistent peri-oral and peri-orbital deep rhytides
Acne scars, post-traumatic and surgical scars
Actinic keratoses
Pigmented lesions
Lax skin in all areas (including upper and lower blephs)
Poor skin tone/texture
Contour TRL can treat all skin types, both on face and body.
Science + Technology
Better ablation through more efficient water absorption
The Contour TRL employs a dual-mode erbium:YAG laser that incorporates the pinnacle of resurfacing laser technology. Erbium has a much higher absorption in the target chromophore water than CO2 (see graph below) which gives erbium the ability to vaporize tissue with very little thermal conduction. By contrast, due to its comparatively low absorption by water, CO2 lasers conduct a significant amount of heat into the tissue. The clinical significance of erbium’s superior ablation efficiency should be a critical factor in deciding which laser to add to one’s practice. Studies have shown that erbium lasers produce far fewer side effects such as the prolonged erythema and hypopigmentation that are common with CO2 lasers.
TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) technology
Erbium’s high water absorption is only part of the story. What truly sets the Contour apart is TRL technology, which gives the user the ability to adjust the depth of ablation and coagulation independently. By modulating the laser’s energy to deliver supra-ablative pulses, the Contour is able to vaporize any depth of tissue from 4 to 200 microns per pass with extreme precision. If coagulation is desired, sub-ablative laser energy is delivered in a train of pulses that heat the tissue to a selectable depth without vaporizing it.
With Contour TRL, the physician has the ability to precisely dial in the exact tissue effect desired – from pure ablation to pure thermal, and every combination in between. This unique ability is what gives the power to tailor treatments to each patient’s individual pathology, desired outcome, and tolerance for downtime. Simply stated, if you want the very best resurfacing results.
